The world of website hosting is a confusing place. What is hosting? Can I do it from my home computer?
Well, lets put some things in order.
What is hosting?
When you make a website and want other people to see it, you will need to publish (or upload) it with a web hosting service.
Web hosting services work by storing your website files in high-powered computers (web servers) connected to a very fast network. When someone types in your web address (such as www.google.co.uk), the internet connects to the web server holding your website files and then transfers your website information back to their computer. From there they can surf and view the pages of your website.
Can I just run my website from my computer?
Well, yes you can, however, this is a really bad idea. What if your computer has a dreaded blue screen of death? Your website will disappear from the internet. What if your hardrive fails? It’s then all over for your website without some very expensive recovery option or a visit to a specialist computer recovery store. Our servers are backed up and if they fail then your sites are switched over to another server. We can boast a 99.98% uptime statistic so you can be sure that your website will always be up and running.
What we offer
Our stand alone hosting costs £50 per annum, if you already have a website and you are looking for a new host then we can help you move over. If you are unable to move your files yourself then we can facilitate this for you for an additional £50.00. All we need is your username and password for your existing host and we will do the rest, including adjusting the DNS settings for your domain name (there may be a period of downtime depending on how quickly your domain name holder can update their system).
We can also provide you with VPS servers to suit your needs. These work out less expensive if you have multiple websites.
